Post Graduate Program Structure

The structure of the MSc program “Economics of Education and Management of Educational Units” reflects scientific advancements and market needs in the field of education. The duration of studies for the completion of the Master’s Degree is set at three (3) semesters for full-time students and an additional two (2) semesters for part-time students.

To successfully complete the program, students must pass ten (10) courses, evenly distributed across the first two semesters, and successfully complete a master’s thesis, which must be approved by the examination committee. The thesis is undertaken during the third semester. Alternatively, students may choose to take and pass two additional courses instead of writing a thesis. The maximum duration for completing the program is four (4) academic semesters for full-time students and six (6) academic semesters for part-time students. Extensions beyond this period may be granted only in exceptional cases, upon approval by the Department’s Assembly.

An extension for one additional academic year may be granted by the Assembly, upon written request from the student, for particularly serious reasons (e.g., professional or health-related issues). Failure to comply with these regulations will result in the student’s removal from the postgraduate student registry.

Students may apply for a suspension of studies, which can be granted by the Department’s Assembly. The application must include the reasons for the suspension, the requested duration, and supporting documentation. The semesters during which a student is on leave do not count toward the maximum study duration. Upon resuming studies, students must follow the curriculum in effect at the time of re-enrollment rather than that of their initial admission. The Assembly reserves the right to resolve any issues that may arise due to a study suspension.

To obtain the Master’s Degree, students must complete a total of ninety (90) ECTS credits. Each semester consists of five courses, three of which are mandatory and two elective, selected from a pool of offered electives. Students may choose to take additional elective courses beyond the required ones, which will not count toward their final degree grade. A certificate of attendance will be issued for any additional courses, provided the student has fully participated in the educational process.

The master's thesis must demonstrate originality and scientific rigor. It can be written in either Greek or English.

Students enrolled in the part-time program will take only the mandatory courses (three per semester) in the first academic year (1st and 2nd semester). In the second academic year (3rd and 4th semester), they will complete their elective courses. The thesis, or alternatively the two additional courses, will be completed in the 5th semester.
