Topics in Educational Research
Instructor: Nikolaos Michelakakis
This course initially presents scientific research in general, its various types, and its relationship with epistemology, logic, and ethics. In doing so, it aims to lay the theoretical groundwork for the related course in the program titled “Research Methodology and Academic Writing.”
It then focuses on theoretical research topics of contemporary interest, particularly those related to the economics of education. Among other things, it introduces students to fundamental concepts of game theory, along with the use of mathematical modeling in the theoretical analysis of problems and education from an economic perspective.
In this way, it seeks to complement the program’s course “Statistical Methodology and the Social Sciences,” which emphasizes empirical research. The course will be taught independently, based on a wide range of contemporary research articles selected by the instructor.
