Message from the Director

Dear Prospective Student,
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Master’s Program in Economics of Education and Management of Educational Units, offered by the Department of Economics at the University of Piraeus.
Education has always played a crucial role in economic and social development. In today’s societies, knowledge is the key driver of wealth and growth, which is why they are often referred to as knowledge societies. Education serves as the gateway to acquiring knowledge, and the sum of an individual’s knowledge and skills constitutes their human capital. These skills and knowledge are closely linked to technological advancements, and the relationship between education and economic development is reciprocal.
The more individuals or societies invest in education, the greater the economic growth. Likewise, the more economically developed a country is, the more it invests in education. The spread of knowledge and the fight against illiteracy across various economic sectors are considered fundamental prerequisites for improving both individual and societal economic and social well-being.
Education is the primary tool for reducing inequalities, poverty, and social exclusion. It enhances technological proficiency, while technology, in turn, facilitates access to education. Distance learning and lifelong education programs create opportunities for all citizens to access knowledge, reinforcing the idea that education is the primary path to prosperity.
By studying in the MSc program in Economics of Education and Management of Educational Units, you will gain essential knowledge and skills that will enable you to understand the socio-economic landscape of education and its significant relationship with economic and social development. You will also be equipped to manage educational institutions, take on leadership roles in the education sector, and design effective educational policies.
